The Fall Guy (2024)
#1
I purchased this because it was the only way I was going to see it.

I hope you all are sitting down, because I enjoyed this. It was all sorts of dumb fun. Plenty of car crashes and things that go boom. A threadbare plot you can figure it. It can't even see the Bechdel test from where it sits. But Ryan Gosling is really charming and fun in this role. It had some really fun fight scenes (They should have had David Leitch direct Deadpool Vs Wolverine) It had some ridiculous stunts. And I was amused throughout.

I am a sucker for a movie about making movies. My favorite scenes had to be the Behind the Shots they rolled during the credits. There are two big cameos. One you should guess. The other was completely surprising and I'm surprised I hadn't heard about it.

So, kind of Doom recommended but I can also accept your scorn.

Wow one big fat ad for 87 North.

But I’m here for it. I luv 87 North. It was an action rom-com but 87N leveled it up in a major way. The two opening one-er shots were super complex and had me at ‘hello.’ Then all the Easter eggs and inside jokes worked really well for me - the movie references (in line quotes and action blocking), the bionic $6M sound, the Hall H nods, the poke at the academy’s lack of awards for stunts, great tips of thr crash helmet for action nerds. And there were some amazing stunts and fun choreo. 87N delivers once again. Plus the whole meta angle in storytelling was layered just enough to be entertaining without getting too heady. And sword fights! So many wins.

Ultimately it’s a total park your brain outside and enjoy the show type of film.

And I saw 3 good cameos, the replacement star (referenced in the sticky note), the arresting officer (which is who Greg refered to as obvious), and the arresting officers partner (who didn’t have a line but was the Easter egg origin of Emily’s ‘Jody’.

Note that I was a huge fan of The $6M Man but wasn’t into The Fall Guy.

D00M recommended.

Seen on Peacock (which also has the extended version but I didn’t commit to that and doubt I’ll go back for it).

Indeed. You know them from John Wick, and more.

Beyond being Star Trek day, it’s Heather Thomas’ birthday. She’s 67.
