A documentary about how songs are made down in Nashville. Yes, I am a sucker for songs about the creative process. And this one is pretty good. The talking heads range from people who songs you've heard but don't know to famous country artists like Mac Davis, Garth Brooks and Brad Paisley. Okay. I know them.
It was a pretty interesting tale. They filmed a lot in the Bluebird Cafe which is the mainstays of the story of songwriting in Nashville. They went up and down music row. They had a lot of people talk. And they did the trick of not having a narrator and letting the story unfold.
And they did one hugely manipulative thing. I don't know whether to applaud it or decry it. The film focused on a sad song based on a true story about a fallen veteran. They interviewed the fallen veterans father who said flat out the song was too hard for him to hear. Then they brought the songwriters in to perform the song live in front of him. Yikes. The father did seem kind of pleased, but there was a lot of crying all around.
Not a big recommendation unless you want to see how songs made by a lot of country artists. Although, the guy from Journey who wrote 'Don't Stop Believing' pops in .....
