Julio Torres latest. It opens with a you Julio being entertained by his mother, together imagining all sorts of wonderful things...it reminds me of Julio's SNL fake ad for the Wishing Well for sensitive boys. His dream is to work for Hasbro and bring his ideas to the world. He comes to New York, but as an immigrant, he must have a sponsor to get a work visa. His Hasbro applications are not landing him an interview/job, so he takes a job at a cryogenics company that caters to artists. He loses that job and is then on a timeline to find a new sponsor or get booted from the country. He ends up working as an assistant to a maniacal Tilda Swinton and the stage is set...
Julio gets to mix in his art/social commentary that you may have seen in his stand up. The overarching story is multiple Kafka-esque bureaucracies mixed with a "Devil Wears Prada" like relationship as Tilda's PA.Sometimes it goes low-fi surreal, like a Michael Gondry video.
I laughed multiple times as FileMaker is a major plot point in the film. Tilda is great. I enjoyed it.
Recommended if you like Julio's sense of humor.
