The Men who stare at Goats

After seeing a review that gave this movie an 'F' rating, I was concerned. But the movie turned out to be quite entertaining. The story follows midwest reporter Ewan MacGregor as he researches the paranormal activities of the US Army. George Clooney plays the best member of the New Earth Army faction of the paranormal platoon. Jeff Bridges plays the Dude, I mean, the leader of the of the Platoon.
They never say yeah or nay about whether they can actually do the things they say they can do, but Clooney is a firm believer. It's almost a flashback roadtrip buddy picture as Ewan meets up with Clooney in Kuwait and they travel north into Iraq on Clooney's secret mission.
It's a wierd mish mash of the movie but the underlying theme of Jedi training with Ewan Macgregor as the lead lends a certain fun texture to the film.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit

I've been recommended this film by countless people in the music scene because of the nickname of the psych squad I lead - the Jedi Nite Krew.  And I get it. This is all about Jedi and what we do, only a militarized version.  Great cast even though I don't care for Clooney, but he was okay in this. Bridges was perfect and McGregor was even more perfect in that meta way.  Lang and Patrick were also good but their good whenever you put them in a military uniform.  Spacey was extra creepy knowing what became of him.  But in the end, it didn't really move me.  I wanted it to get trippier and jedi mind trickier.  The MK Ultra part was under done.  And the end scene drove the point home too late.  But still, glad to have seen it so I know why people keep recommending it to me.

Watched this again with Stacy and we both enjoyed it. I was surprised how much I forgot which was basically all of it. I even forgot that I’d seen this before if not for the post above. My memory, or lack thereof, has been troubling of late. I blame covid brain but it could really be any number of things. At least it keeps things fresh. It was like seeing this anew, for the first time. I feel like I Jedi kindness tricked myself.
