A young couple out for a walk decide to explore a cemetery. As darkness falls, they discover that they can't find their way out.
There's not a whole lot to this film. It's really all atmosphere. And WTF, what cemetery custodian would allow Rollin to film like this? Because there's some action involved, and things get knocked over, or broken. Maybe those were set pieces seamlessly introduced, but if so, Rollin is a genius.
The young couple do change as the night progresses, with the flighty girl becoming ever more at home with the cemetery, while the brave boy gets ever more freaked by the place, and by the girl's increasing contentment there.
Not much nudity here, and only a modicum of plot. No vampires or other supernatural elements. Though very atmospheric and brilliantly shot as usual, I felt short-changed with this one.
Oh, there's a clown. Not that it amounts to much, but there's always a clown.
[Note: I've used up my monthly viewings on Kanopy, will have to wait until June 1 to resume this retrospective.]
