Asian Americans (PBS)

I watched a bit of this with my mom last week. She claimed she saw one of our relatives, Akira, who I never really knew, in one of the vintage photos. Allegedly it was from a graduation? There's a ton of vintage photos.

I figured I'd check it out because I was too burnt out last week to tune in after the announcement of the end of the KFTC (I'm still getting calls/texts/emails about that and imagine I will continue to get these for a while). No, I didn't see Akira. I wouldn't know Akira at all. I'm not sure we ever even met and if we did, it was when I was a wee lad. But right from the start, I did recognize someone.

Connie Yu.

I should stipulate that I know 2 Connie Yus, both of whom are mothers of champions. This Connie Yu is the fencer, friend of yetis, and always brought us treats at AFS. The other Connie Yu is the mom of three wushu champions who were classmates of mine when I was with the O-Mei academy - her husband died suddenly, unexpectantly - he was such a nice guy, a gentleman - it was shocking. He loved wushu and his death fueled his kids to become champions.

But back to the fencing Connie Yu, she's a prominent talking head in episode one and appears early up discussing Chinese and the railroad. My wifi crashed only 20 mins in unfortunately so I don't know how much more she appears in this. Ivor, you should check this out. It's free access on the PBS website for now, but that'll disappear soon as PBS only makes its shows free access for a short time.

The series has 5 episodes - each is like 2 hours. Not sure how much of this I'll watch.

Damn it, I meant to watch this because my friend Linda Fifield (nee Wong)’s grandfather was in it.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
