This was a library DVD, which peaked my curiousity because of all the Bollywood flicks, what would be in the Cruz library? Plus the cover said there would be martial arts. Turn out it was a random pic, Who knows how this got into the collection? And the martial arts were mediocre at best. Kaanchi is a fiesty gal from a village of retired soldiers overlorded by corrupt officials. She falls for the local combat instructor, but the son of the corrupt official obssesses with her after having her model for his paintings. Then SPOILER ALERT the combat instructor is brutally killed - it's a very shocking scene because it comes out of nowhere right after a romantic interlude musical number. Then Kaanchi walks the road of vengence END SPOILER. This is the breakout film of the lead, a gorgeous starlet named Mishti, but she can't carry all the randomness in this film. Turns out it was the same director as Pardes (1997) which we saw in Pune and it was awesome, mostly because Bollywood in India is super awesome. They really know how to enjoy their movies there. It also takes place partially in Mumbai, which was the nearest major capital to Pune where we rented our apartment. I recognized the train station. Lots of anit-corruption propaganda - long live the Indian rebel spirit! No sword fights, but some shovel and sledgehammer fights - not good tho. Not DOOM recommended at all. Honestly, I was only half watching it.
