I've been a fan of Joel's for a long time. Although, the last two albums didn't quite do it for me. I've been to a couple of his concerts and they were really good.
I'm curious to see what I missed. His voice was in fine form, better than a lot of aging pop/rock stars. He is renowned for cursing his younger self for putting all these high parts in the songs. He even joked to the audience at one point during Innocent Man there were high notes in the upcoming song and the audience should feel free to boo him if he didn't hit them. Then he went and hit the high notes.
I watched most of it. It is all the hits. A highlight was Sting coming on to perform a really good song I did not know called The Man from Mulberry street from the River of Dreams album. I'm enjoying the show. The band is really good. The percussionists is super talented because she also helps out on Sax, occasionally.
It is all nostalgia and I am wallowing in it.
The best part about the broadcast, in case you haven't heard about the controversy, is that the show started late on the east and central time zones because the Masters Tournament ran late. Halfway through the final song of the night, CBS cut from the broadcast to go to local news instead of letting Joel finish the song. The song was Piano Man.
CBS is re-airing the concert again tonight.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
