The Bollywood version of Top Gun. Yeah, yeah, it touches all the cliches you can think of for this genre: the Maverick top pilot who doesn’t follow orders but is the best, the married pilot that you know is going to get captured, the CO who has issues with the top pilot, the tough hawtty who eventually succumbs to the top pilot, the goofy minority character that everyone pokes fun at who also gets captured but roses to the challenge, a psycho villain, and lots of literal flag waving.
It stars two of the hawtest Bollywood leads - Hrithik Roshon and Deepika Padakone. for the most part, they stay in uniform but there’s a few dance numbers with a shirtless Hrithik and bikini-ed Deepika which makes you wonder why these two even bother to wear clothes. They are both painfully gorgeous in the gratuitous Bollywood slo-mo way.
It’s got some funny bits, some cool cgi Jet fights that were surprisingly good, some ok dance numbers (both leads can dance but I found the choreography a bit clunky and I was distracted by the overwhelming hawtness, some ok firefights, one ridiculous finale hand-2-hand fight that has one of the stupidest and boldest villain kills ever, and some really sappy melodramatic bits but I’ll be damned if I didn’t get a bit misty at them.
Not D00M recommended. It was distracting but if you’re going to spend 2.5+ hours on a Bollywood film, let me recommend something better.
