I've been invited to be on a panel with Dr. David Smith at this psychedelics conference at the Midway in SF. I've been wanting to attend one of these. Various gatherings are happening all across the country like this.
This is on Bicycle Day which we've discussed last year -

Well that was a trip. Quite a confluence of psychonauts. Three rooms of talks (we were in the biggest hall). Dozens of vendors - art, shrooms, chaga, salvia, vials, jewelry. So many shroom microdose packages. Shrooms dominated. I even got some sample gummies. One table was full of aminita muscaria - more than I’ve ever seen in on place, jarred and classified.
Met some old friends. A Kung Fu brother from Lam Kwoon who was at Shaolin with me in 2001. A father of one of Tara’s elementary school friends (he’s a bit of braggart - his daughter moved back in with him and teaches music privately; it was a delight to share what my daughter is doing and see his face drop). Met the writer who wrote me up for that Laurie Anderson thing I did with the Kitchen sisters a while back (I didn’t recognize him but he recognized me). Got chatted up by a lot of interesting people.
Our talk went well. Dr David started out a bit slow and I was worried but once he got in his groove, he was dropping wisdom bombs like a B52. Maria, who is only heard of before because she moved on when I started with the clinic, gave this great tidbit of HAFC history about how our work with marginalized communities led to the identification of HIV in the early years. And when someone in the audience asked to hear some success stories, Gantt shared (with prior permission) that the primary promoter of this event was his former patient. I shared some tripper tales and got the most laughs. I felt fairly on point with tripper tales, and David made an effort to set me up well with his introduction. Each talk was 45 mins, and we could’ve easily gone twice that long.
It was fun. A great way to celebrate Bicycle Day. If asked, I’d go again next year.

As a direct result of my participation in this panel, I have been personally invited to Shulgin Farm for a gathering called Mycelia Bay Area. It actually works out in my impacted summer schedule. More to come hopefully...
