I went with my neighbor. I was wearing my Camel Moonmadness t-shirt and while we were in line, a guy walked by in a Camel Snowgoose t-shirt so we gave each other a shout out. Another guy in line turned to me and said he interviewed Perer Bardens and Andy Ward when they toured Moonmadness in '76 and played San Francisco.
No opener...First half of the show was highlights from the Steve Hackett solo catalog which I guess I'm not all that familiar with since I only knew one song ("Everyday"). I have the album with "Ace of Wands" on it, and I recognized the title when they mentioned it, but I don't remember the song....every song seems to be teetering on the epicness/epic mess tightrope.
The band took a 20 min break, came back with a bass solo. Pretty good, but strange...then (IIRC) another Hackett solo song. Then they launched into the Genesis Foxtrot album, starting with Watcher of the Skies.
The musicianship required to pull off that album is pretty high, and Mr. Hackett is getting up there in years, but they did it. The sound was booming, but I listened w/o earplugs and it wasn't too much where we were sitting (center balcony). Mostly it was the visceral vibrations from the bass pedals that we felt. The Foxtrot tracks are all pretty good, but side 2: Horizons (the solo acoustic guitar piece) followed by Suppers Ready are my favorites.
They ended, took their bows, then left and came back for an encore. I forget the songs, but it opened with a drum solo, then something else, then Firth of Fifth followed by a bit of Dance on a Volcano and Los Endos from Trick of the Tail and maybe parts of Afterglow from Wind and the Wuthering
Fun Monday night of pre-sellout Genesis
