The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)
#1
We all know the gag, right? Nicholas Cage plays Nicholas Cage paid to attend the Mandalorian's birthday party on the Island of Majorca. They bond and decide to write a screenplay to star Nicholas Cage and The Mandalorian. But the CIA is involved and so are some gangsters. It's all very meta and leans hard into it's meta-ness.

The film would probably play better with a thorough lack of knowledge of the plot but it would help to know a lot of Nicholas Cage films because they reference a lot of Nicholas Cage films. But it was kind of fun to watch. There are some laugh out loud moments. There are some tedious bits where it leans too hard into the meta but overall enjoyable.

Luved it. A few lol moments. Luved the acid scene. The Being John Malkovich for Nick but goofier because Nick. And Pedro. But ultimately, so very very Nick. Hats off to Nick for being so self mocking.

I have a soft spot for father/daughter movies. And now I really want to see Paddington 2

A great buddy flick.

Recommended for all D00M Nick Cage fans. Gotta luv Nick, amirite?

The trailer spoils a lot of good plot points. I'm glad I forgot it before watching this. But extra cred for using a BlackPink track (my fav K-pop band).

I recommend Paddington 2. Maybe not quite as good as the first, but Hugh Grant is really funny, and does a big song and dance routine at the end. And an HP rating of 4, 5 if you count the voice-over.

It's a major reference in TUWoMT, enough so that I'm very curious.
