At about 11:30 on Sunday, I received a call on the landline at the house. I said Hello and heard nothing in response. I hung up. A few minutes later the phone rang again. The same thing happened. Weird. I went to my desk to go online when I received a text from the Queen. She was the one trying to call me. She had been in an accident. What the what?
The Queen had headed off to Oakhurst to get me a birthday lunch from South Gate Brewing Company which has the best garlic fries. On the way home, coming down Road 600/ Grub Gulch, she was probably going a little too fast when some creature darted out in front of the car. Not an unusual occurrence. She swerved, lost control of the car and did a 180º spin. The momentum from the spin caused the car to flip up on it's side, driver side down.
She tried to call me but there are a lot of dead spots for cell reception in the area. Although she couldn't call, she could text which was how she contacted me. I asked here where she was. She had no idea. Fortunately she spotted an address on a nearby house and gave me that number. Oddly, she was right next to one of the houses we wanted to buy.
I quickly drove to where the Queen's little civic rested on it's side next to the road. The more I looked at the car, the less I understood how it was possible for the car to have to rest in that position. With the momentum, the car should have ended up on it's roof. But no. On it's side. The Queen had to climb up through the passenger side door to leave the car. She hoped with my help, we could push the car back on to the wheels. Yeah, no.
She called AAA or texted them. Their time of arrival was indeterminate. Fortunately, our neighbors in the military industrial complex were home and immediately came out to help. It is good to have neighbors that have all sorts of heavy equipment in their yard. But all we needed was our neighbors big pickup truck and some heavy duty slings. He also brought some traffic cones to block traffic on the road.
All sorts of people did drive by. Without fail, they all stopped to see if we needed help.
Quickly, we were able to get the car righted. I was afraid the tires would explode when the car fell to the ground. But the car just bounced. However, the car door locks all closed upon impact with the ground. The Queen's keys were still in the ignition so I had to run back the five miles to the house to get our other set of keys.
The Queen started up the car and with the exception of a lot of grey smoke from the exhaust, the car seemed to run fine. The only damage were some scuffs on the driver side panels and the destruction of the side mirror. The side mirror might be what kept the car from tipping all the way over.
In the end, the Queen was unharmed except for some stiffness. However, two hours in the car did not help the meal from South Gate Brewing Company.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
