The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
#1
David E. Kelly brings us a new show about, get this, a lawyer! Pretty far out of his wheel house, I know. The series is based on a series of books by Michael Connelly and it was already made into a movie starring Michael McConnaghy.

It's pretty standard lawyer fare. There is a big case which Micky Haller, the titular Lincoln Lawyer, gets because the previous lawyer on the big case gets murdered. Haller inherits all the cases the dead lawyer gets because that lawyer wrote a contingency plan where Haller would get the cases in case of dead lawyer's demise. Because that's a real thing that happens. So, Haller gets the cases. There is a huge deadline for Haller to get up to speed on the big money murder trial because the defendant in the murder trials doesn't/can't wait any longer to go to trial.

There's the big trail which is the focus for the season, but there are little trials every episode where Haller can show how good he is at lawyering. So far, the show is engaging if not overly original. There are all sorts of romantic troubles as well to liven up the mix. Again, standard. The only gimmick is Haller likes to be driven around in a Lincoln where he does most of his prep work for cases. It gets pretty clunky at times having scenes inside the car but the show runners are sticking with it.

Stacy’s been watching this. She’s almost done. I watched like e8 or 9 and might’ve napped a bit. We both think it’s okay - pretty standard lawyer drama fair. I like the Latino angle. I’m not engaged tho. Stacy will probably finish it just because she’s gotten this far.

Yeah. I watched a bunch of episodes over the weekend. The show is falling apart. tQ gave off many grunts of disgust at the lack of logic or lack of knowledge of how courts work. She especially didn't like they didn't know how to set up a court reporter's writer and that the court reporter's writer wasn't made by tQ's company.

The show is getting a bit silly. There seems to be a lot of filler in the story telling to make the series ten episodes. So many stupid shots driving in the desert while Mickey Haller and his driver talk about how courts work. I did read the book back in the day but I can't remember any of this story and once we are done watching, I will quickly forget this series.

Saw the penultimate episode. I just want the show to be over at this point. I'm tired of the talks in the car while they drive through the desert. I'm tired of the talks at the overhead walkway in downtown.

And the big reveal/dénouement was so poorly shot. Two guys talking forever at a table? That's the best you can do? And some of the revelations were just absurd. And Cisco's raspy voice is really annoying.

And meh. The main mystery was poorly constructed and only worked if a one a million coincidence occurred. I got lost in all the other mysteries of who was who and why it mattered. The romance in the middle seemed to be driven by the plot. And boy are they hoping for a season two. At least they did wrap all the main story lines.

And just like that, Season 2 is upon us.

I finished the third season. Still a solid procedural even if the belief meter stretches a lot.
