Raised by Wolves (HBO Max)(2020)

Ridley Scott directs this and episode and produces the series for HBO MAX. Scott can be hit or miss lately but this was a hit.

Our world has ended or a world has ended. To keep the species alive, ships are sent out to nearby habitable planets. In our case, a small ship carrying robots and embryos lands on a dusty world. The robots are called Mother and Father and they seem to have a few emotions.

But you can never trust robots in Scott films, right. Sort of.

The majority of the show is just showing the raising of the kids and getting the world ready.

But then bad things happens and there is a lot of OH MY FUCKING GOD and it's really good.

I can't wait to watch more episodes.

I watched all 10 episodes and I am lost. I must cogitate before I can write a review.

I forgot that I watched this. It's forgettable. There's a lot of ideas going on:

crusaders vs athiests
retro SCI-FI look and feel
adam & eve androids
malfunctioning droids

...but it doesn't tie them together well and in the end, it feels like "stuff happens". Lots of threads started, but not concluded.

The main character "mother" is a converted military unit reconfigured to nurture the new humans. She's a conflicted piece of work and is played well. The other cast is also played well. The sets are interesting. I just didn't connect with the story.

IIRC, there's a scalpel fight. Not recommended...
