I have fallen into a hole. The Twins hole. Another Twins flick on Netflix (earlier this week was http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=5543)
So beyond Gillian & Charlene, this stars 3 of my fav martial stars: Sammo, Wu Jing, and Yuen Wah (Wah is another martial brother of Sammo, Jackie, Yuen Biao, Yuen Qi, Corey Yuen - that clan of opera pupils under Yu Jim Yuen). The action is choreographed by Kong To Hoi, most notable for The Grandmasters (http://brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/s...p?tid=2738) but not much else. Choreo is a lot of wire work. The twins showcase their acrobatics and flexibility. Sammo, Wu & Yuen are tight as always, outclassing the hordes of foes. And everyone flies about on wires. Some decent wire stunts - totally unconvincing but the actors do some serious high flying - people always disdain wirework but when you sit back and think about it, those are some pretty awesome stunts.
The twist is that they are all twins. Now, Gillian & Charlene are not twins, despite their band name. The other actors play duel roles, except for Sammo (which is a let down). Then the good guys and bad guys are all members of this cult of thieves that are all twins. The rest are real twins. There are even twin cgi cobras (that get a pre-credits shout out no less). Everyone is chasing the Heaven Bead, which is this football-sized 'magic' artifact. There's a lot of crashing through glass, clearly an homage to Yes Madam or perhaps a poach of it. The plot is barely sensible however, trailing off into tangents of people dying of cancer, Tibetan monks, goofy cops on the trail, HK emigrants running tiny shop closets, a sex toy shop which doesn't go anywhere much to our disappointment, and a gratuitous laser-triggered alarm sequence.
No sword fights because it's modern but lots of random objects used injuriously. DOOM recommended for DOOMers that appreciate Looney Tunes choreo, Sammo-Wu Jing-Yuen Wah fans or appreciators of cute cantopop stars.
