Lizbeth Salander 2.0 as Mary and the Joker as Jesus. Wait...what? Joaquin is a bummer of a Christ, more like Charles Manson which gives the apostles a whole new light. Chiwetel is Peter basically playing Chiwetel. It's a take from Mary's perspective, a feminist viewpoint with a lot of elaboration. Scenes like the last supper bread breaking are played out modestly without dialog. The settings were spectacular (shot in Italy) but it was one of those ancient times films where they assume that the ancient buildings look like ruins because they look like ruins now. It's a lot of Jesus wallowing in self pity because of what is to come and only Mary understands. It's also a lot of heavy breathing without soundtrack and ponderously slow scenes.
No sword fights. Really? I've read Matthew 26. There's some high priest ear smoting by sword. How dare they cut that scene! Best sword fight in the gospels. Not DOOM recommended.
