Started watching this on Stacy’s recommendation (she’s already finished it) and got sucked into a 6 ep binge (just 2 more to go). The NYC & Paris ballets swap dancers and choreographers in an effort to boost post pandemic sales. It’s funded by an absurd and reprehensible billionaire.
Great characters, including Charlotte Gainsbourg as the French ballet director. The dance sequences are masterfully filmed, mostly single one-ers with swirling camera work that showcases the ballet magnificently. Most of all, it’s got a quick wry sense of humor throughout that skewers and honors ballet simultaneously. The Étoile (principal dancer) from France is a wonderfully obsessed character, fierce and stubborn, and a delight to watch - she had me at hello with her activist introduction.
I’ll likely finish the last two eps tomorrow.
D00M recommended, and spouse friendly.
