He was the bass player from Gang of Four and Shriekback. Gang of Four was a bit too abrasive for me (although "Natural's not in It" is a great song) but I loved Shriekback. I think ED did as well. TG will probably not remember, but we were at Lisa Wolfe's house one night and she put on the 12in. of Shriekback's "Lined Up" and I thought it was one of the most incredible things I'd ever heard. The bass line is still one of my all time favorites. I was hooked.
The rest of you might remember Shriekback for "My Spine is the Bass Line" or "Nemesis" where they rhyme nemesis with parthenogenesis. DM: if you haven't heard them you might want to check it out.
