Peeped e1. Not bad. It’s a noir gothic vision of Gotham with a few odd tweaks. Commissioner Gordon & Barbara are black. And the Penguin is a woman.
Got off to a decent start. Harvey Dent is also in this retelling - as of e1, he’s unscarred.
I enjoyed it - a half hour cartoon. I’ll watch more but too early to make a D00M rec.

E2 introduces Detective Montoya who was played by Rosie Perez in Birds of Prey who I hung out with in NYC in the late 90s. She gave me a packet of her info for a potential interview but I never followed up and now I can’t remember what became of that packet. She was exactly the same in real life, same annoying accent.
But this ep was ok. The villain didn’t click with me - sort of a phantom of thr opera type. I should look him up.
Next ep introduces Selina and I’m all in.

Not sure I’m into this depiction of Catwoman. Her identity is revealed right away. She’s a rich entitled childless cat lady whose dad is jailed.
Bruce gets a court order to get counseling… by Dr, Quinzell. And she’s black.
Still hanging with this tho. The reinterpretations are surprising.

The overarching story has me engaged. Does anyone remember Firebug?
Note that this is set in a 50-60s Gotham with ‘period’ tech. The only flaw is that it’s inclusive so there are many POC characters, too many for the time, especially at such high rank. Still enjoying it tho. It’s got a classic noir vibe that’s working for me.

Harleen makes a pass at Montoya but then is revealed as a fully actualized Harley with no Joker at all so far. That’s a twist. King Tut makes a cameo but more as a victim than a villain - I suppose he’s always been so. I misread Harleen’s animation style. She’s not black; she’s Asian.
Still oddly engaging.

The supernatural is introduced as Batman must exorcise a ghost. Hopefully that’ll cross over to a future Arkham story but now the major arc is the fall of Harvey Dent.

7 was filler - a hit on Commissioner Gordon.
8 was more supernatural. A gal who looked like Wednesday was some sort of vampire sucking the breath out of kidnapped orphans. This one kinda worked for me.
The last two eps were Dent’s conversion to 2 face. It’s played out well although SPOILER ALERT he dies at the end END SPOILER. The end of season 1 teases Joker
All in all, not bad. Batman works better in the era of Tommy guns and palookas. It’s not as good as the original animated series yet, but it has potential. I like the noir style.
Not D00M recommended only because y’all aren’t that into animation and the animation here isn’t groundbreaking: it’s more old skool.
