The Instigator is a heist film starring Casey Affleck and Matt Damon. They are two new to the crime game people tasked with robbing the mayor of Boston at a fundraising gala. Who would have thought that an Affleck and Matt Damon would be in a film about Boston? It is kind of an old school heist film directed by Doug Liman complete with jumps in the timeline. There were some really fun car chases through Boston where I recognized a lot of locations and couldn't help but think how did they get the permits to film there?
The best character in the whole film is the therapist who treats Damon for his depression. She gets caught up in the heist in some interesting ways. Ving Rhames plays the cop tracking down the two thieves. He gets to drive around in a completely inappropriate vehicle.
It's a fun, character full heist picture.
