I need a new AXE. Suggestions?
#1
My Surface Pro is getting way too glitchy. I think it will die soon. I need a new laptop. I liked the Surface Pro - I prefer a track pad, plus the touch screen option was nice when the keyboard froze. It served me well and I might just get another one.

What kind of laptops are you all using? Andy recommendations?

I got an iPad Air before my MX trip. It was leaps and bounds better than my old gen 1 iPad mini. It's got the Apple M1 chip, so it's even faster than my iPhone. I got the Air because I didn't think I'd ever use the cameras on it. The best camera is the one you have with you and that's an iPhone...

At work, I use the iPad keyboard with the little trackpad. There's also an Apple Pencil option. With the three, I suspect it would make a formidable laptop replacement.

The limitation is that iOS tries really hard to hide the file system from you. This can be a pain sometimes, but now there's a "Files" app so you can kinda navigate around that issue.

You should pop into the Apple Park Visitor Center Apple Store. It's just down the street from your mom's house. Compare a few models. Try them in person...Drink the kool-aid. It's really good!

I know the store. That’s where I got Stacy’s birthday Mac. Like Vallco, we’ve watched that rise from apricot fields.

I figured you’d go Mac. I’m more partial to PC. It’s what I grew up with and what I know best.

People on the Caffe Macs slack channel are abuzz because they've been selling cherries harvested from the cherry trees inside the donut...

Did I mention that the mothership is an actual spaceship? Once they work out the agriculture needs for interstellar travel, we're blowing the popsicle stand.

I’m the PC person at the Lair, and i use a Thinkpad. However, my needs are probably different than yours. You may want to take a look at the LG. All my court reporters are going ape over them.

My needs - well, I write a lot obvs. Plus I do some graphic design. My main programs are MS Word & Photoshop. Word runs much better on PC than Mac. Mac won't do the transcribe function in Word, which is crap but I rely on it anyways. I'm sure it'll improve.

i"ll check out LGs. Thanks.

I use a MacBook pro, 2021 model with the M1 chip. The university provides me with a computer. I'm used to the Mac now - I've been here 15 years now - but it was hard at first. The key shortcuts in Word and Excel are way better on the PC, so you can do a lot more without using the mouse, so I can see why you'd want to avoid a Mac because of that. Plus the lowest price is higher for a Mac. On the other hand, system crashes are rare, and that's been an ongoing problem for you.
