She died in her sleep on Friday night. Cause unknown at this time.
I had a lot of issues with Effie. She was a pioneer in qigong, but one of her skills was that she was a qi vampire. She took advantage of G2, so much so that there were times when g2 would neglect her KFTC duties to do more volunteer work for Effie. I had to block on numerous occasions. G2 eventually wised up and joked about my qi vampire comments until we met one of effie’s disciples who looked like a zombie (I think she had a permanent eye liner tattoo that went horribly wrong).
She ran an annual qigong conference and kept inviting me. I went with Tara when Tara was just a baby. Effie wanted me to help out - moving tables and such - which had never been discussed at her invitation and I simply could not do because I had Tara. I think we were doing something else in sf and just dropped by. It was annoying.
Nevertheless she served on Clinton’s committee for alternative medicine, which was groundbreaking. She dated James Hong which is how he got in the Tiger Claw circle. And she was a solid practitioner, able to do deep knee bends into her 80s.
