I hadn't seen the original; all I knew about the movie before we watched it was that some critic walked out because was horrified by the donkey show scene. So it didn't sound like something I'd particularly enjoy but heck, it's Kevin Smith, and much as I sometimes am embarrassed to admit, I do *get* his style and although it grosses me out at times, I also find it very humorous.
My favorite scene was the argument between the Star Wars geeks and the Lord of the Rings nerds. Kevin Smith's feeling is that Lord of the Rings was three movies about walking.
Warning spoiler: the donkey show? Very disappointing. I expected to have to turn away and not watch that scene, but it's all hype. Really.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Clerks III
It was on Starz.
The first half was poor as I questioned why I even like Kevin Smith. He's been recycling the same theme for decades. And his cinematic style is poor. It's always weird in his movies to have the camera move so when it does all I can think is "Oh, Kevin rented the dolly for the day" And the vulgarity gets to be too much for my delicate sensibilities. I was thinking of turning the movie off. But halfway through there was a very funny scene with all of Kevin's celebrity friends and I had few genuine chuckles. I pulled on through the end. There was some genuine touching moments but it never really became good.
The plot for this one is Randall almost dies and decides to do something with his life. That something is make a movie about his life at the convenience store. If you know Kevin Smith, there are a lot of elements of his life in this scenario. What makes it even more meta is that Smith is in the film as Silent Bob filming the film Randall directs. Plenty of navel gazing going on.
One of the biggest weaknesses of the film is that none of the people can act. And when a real actor comes in like Rosario Dawson, the other actors look even worse.
Not recommended unless you are a Kevin Smith completist.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

By strange happenstance, I had III on last night as I was packing and settling down. It struck me as incredibly flat, a sad attempt to revisit former glory and redemption. I was intrigued about where it might be going so I was still watching it when I was done with packing, but quickly dozed off as I settled into bed. Got about halfway through and succumbed to slumber, with no regrets about missing the end. I did get as far as the celeb cameo batch. That was amusing.
