Molly's Game
#1
It's Aaron Sorkin's debut as a director. He also wrote the screenplay. It's all that Sorkin verbiage you know and love.

Basically, Molly runs a high stakes poker game and she gets caught. That's it. The sum total of the story. Yes, there is bits of filler, but at the end of the day, Molly runs a poker game. She has problems with her dad. She has problems with the poker players. She has problems with the government. With lots of snappy dialogue along the way.

So, once my brain stopped spinning from onslaught of words, all I could thing was meh. Not a lot there. Costner is in there playing Costner. Jessica Chastain plays Jessica Chastain, which isn't a lot. I'm beginning to think she's not that good. Her range goes from A to A without a lot of fire. I think Michael Cera does a good job because he is outside his comfort zone.

If you catch about the first twenty five minutes of this film you should be good.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

Talk, talk, talk.  If you like Jessica, there's a lot of her in this, mostly in glam gowns with plunging necklines.  I hate Cera.  I hate him in everything.  He just annoys me.  Whenever I see him, I want to punch him in the nose.  I second Greg's opinion on Costner. Idris was cool, like always, but he played second to Jessica.  I do like Jessica, and this was very much her vehicle with her in lead plus the narrating.  I bet she'd be good in a sword fight. We've seen Kevin and Idris deliver action - meh.  And Cera, well, I'd enjoy watching him get stabbed repeatedly with anything, actually the blunter the better.  This was allegedly based on a book that was based on a true story but I found it rather unbelievable and have no desire to read the book now.  Get back to me when Jessica lands that sword fight role.
