Finding Dory
#1
So I high-tailed it out of Sierra Nevada World Music Festival to scurry home because Tara was making me lasagna and taking me out to a movie.  This movie.  But I got slammed by traffic all the way from Cloverdale to Daly City.  It should have taken 3.5 hours but it took 5.5 hours.  I was shaking with road rage.  Thanks Babylon, for killing my reggae buzz right away.  What really upset me was that I couldn't get back in time for the movie tickets T bought.  Mind you, she doesn't buy tickets for me very often.  She doesn't have a job yet (hopefully this summer).  In fact, this might be the first time.  But she was okay with it and I said I'd buy the tickets because it was my fault - I should have left the festival earlier.

So we didn't see the 3D version, which is probably pretty good 3D, but that's ok because my eyes were tired from the reggae and that probably would have just put me to sleep.  The film was cuteness overload, especially given the Pixar short Piper, which was so outrageously cute that T clapped her hands over her face, an odd gesture she does when she's overwhelmed by cuteness.  Finding Dory followed suit - so many new cute characters like baby Dory and the otter cuddle party.  It's a decent sequel, not nearly as 'everything in the sea will eat you' as the original film, and it picks up with a lot of nods to the original.  T really liked it and plans to see it again with her high school friends.  I liked Hank the octopus, voiced surprisingly by Ed O'Neil (I kept thinking it was J.K. Simmons for some reason).  I like octopi.  I like them a lot.

This would make a great double feature with ST4: The Voyage Home, because it's set at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, thinly disguised as the Marine Life Institute.  T & I both really enjoyed that part, being MoBay residents.

NOTE: I'm always emotionally spent after music festivals so I'm a total sucker sappy sweet stuff like this then.  Maybe the film really sucks.  It's totally absurd, especially the finale, but given the soundtrack and the way it is set up, the audience was all laughing hysterically including us, and nothing delights me more than hearing my family laugh.

Eager to hear tQ's take on this.  You were a fan of the original, right?
