Shakira @ Oracle
#1
10/22/2010

Rock Med was asked to help security form a human chain because Shakira does this walk through the audience at the beginning of her show.  Being a diva, she was nearly an hour and a half late, which left DM standing in the middle of the floor alongside about 40 or so other RM vols and security, but that was cool, because DM had no where else to go.  He spent the time talking to the people in the audience to make sure they weren't psycho.

She arrived in a red gown.  She stopped on DM's left first to hold hands with two little girls (one of which was having a B-Day).  She stopped on DM's right to accept a kiss from a very lucky guy, who asked her politely in Spanish first.  She smells really nice.  And she's really short, like Madonna.

Americans don't get Shakira because she doesn't sing in English all the time (she's fluent in 4 languages).  She opened this years World Cup, but then, America doesn't get soccer either, so there you have it.  Shakira is an amazing talent - her voice captures all that that soulful sexy Colombian spirit.  Plus she covers Metallica.  DM was wearing his Metallica RM shirt, so he felt particularly cool that night, even beyond sniffing Shakira.

And wow, can Shakira dance.  It's like a fusion between fandango, hula and belly dancing.  You can watch her dance for days.  That alone is entertaining enough, never mind the singing.  DM thinks Shakira is actually some kind of cat woman, with extra muscles or joints in her hips and stomach.  No normal human can move like that.

DM was told there would be a major stage show, a 10 truck show, but it was actually pretty stripped down compared to other divas.  There was this large mask where they projected face images like the headstones at Disney's Haunted Mansion.  That was pretty effective.  It transformed into this werewolf for Loba and into Shiva for another tune.

Great show.  Still stunned by how close Dm got to this international diva.  Still savoring how nice she smelled.  mmmmm.

Shakira has infected me with another pop earworm. It's a bad one for all the wrong pop music reasons. Listen at your own risk. In my earworm fever, I'm thinking I need to learn this dance...

Please don't.

I've had Billy Joel's "Piano Man" stuck in my head for a couple of weeks, specifically the line "It was sad and it was sweet and I knew it complete when I wore a younger man's clothes"
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

Do you remember how we lit up the room?
And how you felt before you met all my different moods?
But now I drive you mad when I hit you with the truth
Oh-oh, oh-oh

Don't let your mind think it's someone else, someone else
I need to do something for myself, oh

Don't wait up
Don't wait up, up, up, up, up
Don't wait up
Don't wait up, up, up, up, up
Don't be afraid if it gets late, yeah
You'll survive, it's just one night
Don't wait up
Don't wait up, up, up, up, up, up, up

Why won't you put down your phone and look me in the eye?
Got all dressed up for you, but you seem so occupied
Maybe space is all it takes, it's time to fix us

Don't let your mind think it's someone else, someone else
I need to do something for myself, oh

Don't wait up
Don't wait up, up, up, up, up
Don't wait up
Don't wait up, up, up, up, up
Don't be afraid if it gets late, yeah
You'll survive, it's just one night
Don't wait up
Don't wait up, up, up, up, up, up, up, ah

First I kissed you
Then I got mad at you
'Cause I wish I'd
Be happy without you
If I ditch you
Then maybe you would understand
Then maybe you would understand

I need to do something for myself, oh-oh-oh
Don't wait up
Don't wait up, up, up, up, up
Don't wait up
Don't wait up, up, up, up, up
Don't be afraid if it gets late, yeah
You'll survive, it's just one night
Don't wait up
Don't wait up, up, up, up, up, up, up, ah
