Stephen Woodworth "Violet" trilogy - The Queen - 10-15-2007

"Through Violet Eyes," "With Red Hands" and "In Golden Blood." Premise is that they've discovered that anyone with violet-colored eyes is a someone who can communicate with the dead. The North American Afterlife Communication Corps controls all of the U.S. based "violets" basically buys or steals them from their parents when they're young and schools them, then assigns them to various tasks -- the legal branch communicates with murder victims to help the FBI find serial killers and permit victims to testify against their killers. We're told there's an artistic branch - one violet is working with Beethoven to produce a new symphony; our heroine is ticked off that she wound up dealing with criminals when what she wanted was to work with dead artists to produce new DaVincis.

I'd give it two stars -- readable and engaging, but not exactly great literature. I liked the Charlaine Harris "Grave" books a lot better for this type of concept.
