George Harrison: Living in the Material World (2011) - Greg - 02-19-2024 A four hour, two part documentary by Martin Scorsese. This is quite the overview of Harrison's life and includes interviews from the three remaining Beatles and bits from Lennon as well as a host of other people who knew him including Clapton, Phil Spector, Terry Gilliam and his son Dhani. I learned a lot I didn't know but considering how much ground there was to cover, you get tidbits over the course of his life rather than deep dives on selected areas. It was nice to hear early drafts of songs and then parts of the completed versions. The first half covers the Beatles period and the second covers his post Beatle life. The movie did focus on the happier aspects of his life but only touched on the darker aspects, giving just hints to drug use and infidelity. I think my favorite quote was McCartney, where he said "He's my mate. I'm not talking about that" RE: George Harrison: Living in the Material World (2011) - King Bob - 02-19-2024 I think they are all getting coy about their drug use as they get older. Phil Lesh barely mentioned it in his memoir (despite having suffered enough liver damage to need a transplant). Motley Crue as an exception of course.
