MK Ultra (2022) - Drunk Monk - 12-11-2023

Based on the real covert experimentation of LSD and starring Anson Mount, who I love as Capt Pike on ST:SNW, this has been in my queue for a year now. Y’all know DM luvs a good hallucination scene as much as a good swordfight. This was sorely disappointing.

I don’t think anyone involved has ever had any psychedelic experiences. Anson is a psych doc who loses his funding and winds up at the mercy of a covert govt handler who is drugged out in the worst way, into dosing prostitutes and s&m. Anson smokes a lot (cigs & pot), drinks a lot and can’t get it up when his wife gags and binds him for a blow job. It’s a mess of a film, lots of random boobs and back door sex, stereotypical psych patients, kink and tense music. No trips. Oh some of the patients have trips in the lab, but their depictions of them are dumb. It reminded me of those old skool anti-drug propaganda films. ‘Historical’ news accounts are spliced in and were led to believe that spooks ran MK Ultra just to whip masochists and bang trannies. Everything is odiously drab, not at all psychedelic. Such a waste of effort.

Not D00M recommended. Stick with those masterbating dwarves.
