Violent Night (2022) - Drunk Monk - 03-02-2023 (10-05-2022, 02:24 PM)Greg Wrote: Violent Night This was astonishingly entertaining. David Leitch is a producer so the action is on point. Imagine if D00M remade Home Alone but swapped out Maculkin with Legbone as Santa, portrayed as a burnt out eternal warrior of Nordic decent whose favorite weapon was a hammer called skullcrusher. Imagine the rest of us hamming it up as villains. It’s gratuitous ultravi taken so extreme it’s funny (assuming you’re still got that blood and guts sense of humor). What makes this work is that it’s also a heartwarming Xmas tale. It hits all the right notes - hits them with a sledgehammer so their skulls squish like melons. There’s an early oner in a mansion as the servants prepare for a Xmas party. That’s a rip off that these filmmakers know how to move a camera. Than the fights. So over the top. You know that giggle some of D00M gets when there’s a fresh take on ultravi - this turned into a full on belly laugh with one of the scenes involving a Xmas tree star. The choreo is spot on and very very sanguineous. This is parsed by some classic Xmas movie schtick - the ol’ ‘do ya believe?’ trope. But it works surprisingly well - there’s just the right amount of Xmas magic to sell the true spirit of Xmas - which here is full auto. I’m not sure who in D00M must see this. I’m guessing cf & yeti will get it. Greg might but Cindi won’t. Maybe tg. KB has already stated he’s not into gratuitousness and we respect that. Streamed on Peacock. Note: full disclosure - the cheese binge euphoria was hitting in perfect time to make this more enjoyable so this review may be biased. RE: Violent Night (2022) - thatguy - 03-04-2023 It’s the cheese ![]() —tg RE: Violent Night (2022) - Drunk Monk - 03-04-2023 I eagerly await another D00Mr to review this here. It is a special film. Old skool D00M. RE: Violent Night (2022) - Greg - 03-04-2023 Fingers crossed they show it on the plane. RE: Violent Night (2022) - cranefly - 03-18-2023 My whole idea of watching movies with axes in the poster sort of fizzled out. I intended to watch this, but had trouble finding it. It helps to have the title right. Not Violent Santa. And it's just on Peacock, and not for free. DM, do you have the pay version of Peacock? Also, IMDB seems helpful, as someone has collated a list of movies with a axe in the poster. The problem is, it's long, and it's hard to order in any useful way. If you go with high to low rating, you end up topping the list with a lot of 9s, 8s, and 7s that are junk, having been rated by just a handful of people, all friends of the cast and crew or director. If you go by number of ratings, that doesn't really help. Date of release? That's skews things oddly. The only thing I learned from the experience was, wow, there've been a lot of Lizzie Borden movies. I think Elizabeth Montgomery started it off back when she was queen of the TV movie of the week. But following in her wake is a whole lot of drudge. Lizzie Borden Checks the Mail. Lizzie Borden Does the Dishes. Lizzie Borden Vacuums the Carpet. Made-up titles, but you get the idea. Anyway, I decided to exclude all Lizzie Borden fare. Grinding axes has come to an end. Now I'm contemplating tire irons. RE: Violent Night (2022) - Drunk Monk - 03-18-2023 You know, I think we do have a paid subscription. Actually I think my mom has one. It’s weird because I have no idea how she would get one. She would never sign up to pay for anything additional and had no internet access. She never did autopay (which has made taking over her accounts challenging and yet not). Maybe one of her caretakers did it? I don’t know. It’s a mystery. There’s about $30 in monthly bills that we have yet to figure out for my mom. It must be in there. One day peacock just showed up in my email so I logged on. There was an account for my mom so I assumed it came out of her xfinity. But we canceled that months ago. I only just realized that what I’ve been using is likely a paid account because when I signed on with my new AppleTV, it acted like a paid level. It’s very odd and something on the list of financials to sort of my mom’s. RE: Violent Night (2022) - Greg - 06-12-2023 Wow. DM's cheese must have been dosed. This was such a terrible film. So many mixed messages flying around like badly aimed snowballs. They cynicism and malignancy were really off putting. I guess I don't need my Santa being beat up that badly. There was that odd mix of Home Alone and Die Hard in there. This movie was so bad the sequel is already in the works. RE: Violent Night (2022) - Drunk Monk - 06-12-2023 Wait..wait...dosed cheese? Is that a thing? When will we ever agree on a movie again? Who cares? D00M luvs it when we argue. Luvs it long time... RE: Violent Night (2022) - Greg - 06-12-2023 If anyone knows about dosed cheese, wouldn't that be you? And if there isn't any dosed cheese, I'm sensing a void in the marketplace. When we go out to that theater in Palo Alto and catch a screening of Seven Samurai. RE: Violent Night (2022) - thatguy - 06-12-2023 I just had a very nice creamy cheese from Trader Joes with mushrooms in it, but it was not dosed AFAICT --tg RE: Violent Night (2022) - Drunk Monk - 06-12-2023 How long did you give it to kick in? Maybe you should watch Violent Night - if you like it, it must’ve been dosed. RE: Violent Night (2022) - thatguy - 06-12-2023 I should have just taken another dose...it was really yummy! --tg PS - Don't try this with real dosed consumables... Silent Night - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 10-08-2023 Can’t find a review for this one, could have sworn there was one, but oh, well! David Harbour as Sandy Clause, a heart-warming X-Mas tale of family and ultri-vi. Thoroughly enjoyable, 10/10, no notes. RE: Silent Night - Drunk Monk - 10-09-2023 That’s because you got the title wrong http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/showthread.php?tid=7547 RE: Silent Night - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 10-09-2023 (10-09-2023, 05:11 AM)Drunk Monk Wrote: That’s because you got the title wrong Ah! Well, that would do it. Thank you. Nonetheless, a new holiday tradition. |
