Cocaine Bear - Drunk Monk - 04-21-2023 (11-30-2022, 11:56 AM)Greg Wrote: Cocaine Bear (2023) I mentioned I might watch this to a young vol at Phish and she said it was ‘stupid funny’. She was spot on with that review. You get exactly what you think you might get with this, plus more. There are several entwining story arcs of characters in reach of cocaine bear. Those arcs are funny, akin to a classic psycho killer 80s film - the suspense is ‘who’s gonna die?’ It’s a splatter fest from the start. Lots of amputated legs. Some outrageously funny moments, one that gave me the best lol I can remember of late for a movie. Keri Russell is great in this. Snakes on a Plane is a good comparison, but I’d put this a notch better than that. Cocaine Bear knows that it’s gratuitous and just goes for it in an honest no apologies way. It is dedicated to Liotta. D00M recommended only if you’re curious. If not, you won’t get on board with this. I was surprised at how entertained I was. Seen on peacock Cocaine Bear (2023) - Greg - 08-28-2023 Someone had to see it. I don't think Elizabeth Banks is a very creative director. The one thing the film has going for it are the creative killings. If you are looking for some ultra-vi bear mauling this might be the movie for you. A lot of this is just silly. It's like they rounded up this diverse cast of characters to head into the woods to be slaughtered and then filmed the results. It's kind of a good cast with Keri Russell looking for her daughter. O'shea Jackson Jr. trying to find the cocaine. And Ray Liotta in his last role. All the characters have quirks rather than depth. There is kind of a funny fight scene. There is a cute dog. Most of the film is just silly. RE: Cocaine Bear (2023) - Drunk Monk - 08-28-2023 I'm gonna give you a pass on this because you're in mourning (and it doesn't come up on my search either) http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/showthread.php?tid=7644 RE: Cocaine Bear (2023) - Greg - 08-28-2023 I did have a strong "Snakes on a Plane" vibe for this. RE: Cocaine Bear (2023) - Drunk Monk - 08-28-2023 They'd make a great double feature, right? What Cocaine Bear needed was some muthafeckin Samuel L. Jackson... RE: Cocaine Bear (2023) - Greg - 08-28-2023 To recap: Snakes on a Plane was horrible. RE: Cocaine Bear (2023) - Drunk Monk - 08-28-2023 So horrible, it achieved cult status. I feel Cocaine Bear attempts to do this - it aspires to cult film status - but Snakes on a Plane wasn't as premeditated. |
