Renfield - Drunk Monk - 06-14-2023 Nic Cage does a decent Bela Lugosi. He hams it up in that singular Nic Cage way and that works. I didn’t know the lead actor but he reminded me of Ash in Evil Dead. He gains superhero powers when he eats bugs. Shohreh Aghdashloo is the drug gang queenpin and she nails that with her voice alone. Awkwarina is the action hero, which is something you just have to buy into. She’s got some funny lines but is somewhat distracting because she always plays herself. This is an over the top campy splatterfest, a ridiculous exponent is sanguinity with exploding heads, gratuitous dismemberment, and one x-ray shot of someone getting kicked so hard that his entire spine shatters and he spits and shits geyser blood sprays from both orifices (if that does sell this, it’s probably not for you). I was entertained and enjoyed the superhero fight choreo. Plus Nic vamping it up was amusing. But it’s only for fans of ultravi with a sense of bloody humor. Unless you fall into said category, not D00M recommended beyond that: RE: Renfield - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 06-15-2023 G-Man DNI RE: Renfield - Greg - 10-15-2023 Totally DOOM recommended. This was not the film I expected. From the trailers, I thought I knew where this was going to go and it went in a different direction. The splatter fest was just absurd and joyful. I enjoyed the fight scenes. I thought the nods to the previous Dracula films were amusing. Some of the sets were really good, especially the hospital lair. Nick Cage was full on Nick Cage. I really liked the x-ray kick. And Awkwafina was Awkwafina. I did like Miss Drug Kingpin as well. Good times. Now, available for free on Amazon Prime. |
