Avatar: the Way of Water (2022) - Drunk Monk - 06-12-2023
What a gorgeous film. What an excessively long self indulgent film. I couldn’t remember the finer details of the previous Avatar but there was enough to follow this. It must have been spectacular on the big screen. It was stunning on my tv. Its sorta avatar meets whale rider. The sea na’vi are like Māori with facial tattoos and tongue sticking out (but no haka). There’s at least an hour of fantastic scenery that could be cut out. It’s ok if you like that sort of thing. I do, but even my patience was taxed. The finale battle was epic and that somewhat redeemed it. And yeah, it sets up the threequel.
Not overly D00M recommended or not. See it if you’re inclined. But bring snacks and schedule potty breaks. This film demands an intermission, maybe two.

Saw the first ten hours. Will catch the remaining twenty hours tonight. You can find Cameron under indulgent in the dictionary. I always feel like I'm watching a computer game in these movies.

The computer game thing bothered me for the first 7 hours. But then I sorta accepted it, and enjoyed it more for what it was. That was until about hour 23 when my eyes got tired searching for nipples on the female na'vi.
Just kidding. That didn't happen. Don't even think about female na'vi nipples. Just watch the next 37 hours and don't even let that thought enter your mind. No na'vi nipples. Don't even look for them.

I, too, did not spend the entire movie looking for Na'vi nipples.

Edie played the General. She was Nurse Jackie and came to prominence as Mrs. Tony Soprano.

Ha. I watched neither of those shows and just figured she was another cgi blue nippleless na’vi. She looked passingly familiar but it didn’t register.

After two more sittings, we finally finished. I thought there was only about twenty minutes left to get through and it turned out to be over an hour. The Queen was not pleased we had so much still to see.
Boy, that Cameron likes to film boats sinking while people are trapped inside. Didn't he get enough of that with Titanic. Most of the shots I saw, all I could think was that cost a lot of money. The final big battle was pretty good. And if two Na'vi and a whale analog can do that much damage, what are they worried about?
It was all too long. Why did Jake run away again to the sea people? Was it just so we could do water stuff?
