Hot Fuzz - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 04-24-2007

When I saw the trailer about a month ago, I thought this film had real promise. Between now and then I've seen the trailer about a million times more. Maybe there is an upside to not having a television. By the time I actually saw the movie, I knew the plot inside and out.
It's the story of a super cop who gets sent to the country and how he deals with the move. They make lots of references to other Super Cop movies. Except for the one actually named Super Cop.
Who knows if the film was any good? Most of the jokes were in the trailer. Most of the action was in the trailer. There were a few odd bits that made me chuckle. They did bring the gore from Shaun of the dead and that was pretty funny. You had to like Timothy Dalton, who doesn't show up much in the trailer.
I guess I should just have reviewed the Trailer.

Did you sleep through this comic masterpiece? It was chock full of cop-movie lampoonery. When the heavy guy asks London Cop Guy all of those questions that reference other cop movies ("did you ever blah-blah? Did you ever shoot blah-blah) that whole list of questions came true by the end of the movie. The rock music coming from Dalton's car radio always reflected the mayhem that just happened. The bad guys meet at night holding flashlights under their chins to illuminate their faces! Edward Woodward, "THe Equalizer" was in it! They dealt with the "Human Statue"! IT WAS BRILLIANT!!!! Even the GF, who is dismissive of any film that might be in the least bit "fun" or "enjoyable" (preferring "depressing" and "sullen" films) thought it was cute and watched nearly all of it.

It was finely crafted and had fencing in it. A perfect rental.

Ttt 4 2017 - Drunk Monk - 03-04-2017

I stand with the maestro. This was one of the best cop buddy flicks I've seen in years. Hysterical ultravi. Hp factor 3 (filch, minister, slughorn), bond factor 1, hobbit factor 3 (bilbo Watson, galadriel, director Jackson - last two masked uncredited cameos). Witty Brit banter. Jackie's Supercop is referenced in one of the dvds shown which leads me to believe Greg fell asleep (happens to the best of us - no shame in that but you really should revisit this masterpiece). The Dead body reveals were hilarious and the deus ex machina resolutions were all well foreshadowed. Fencing, judo and a sword vs. tonfa fight. Luved it. Laughed out loud.

Nick Frost has two characters - luvable schlub (sans beard) and grumpy badass (bearded).

DAMMMMMMNNN. Is this thread really a decade old? Long live the forum of DOOM!!!

I also liked that it kind of echoed "The Wicker Man" with the isolated community that has a big dark secret

I do reverse my decision.

Second viewings (and third, fourth, fifth, etc. I've seen it a lot) are so much better after you get over the hump of expectations. Plus, I understand more of Edgar Wright is doing. Although, I don't think End of the World is that good. Probably, have to see that again, too.

I rewatch this a lot.
