The A.B.C Murders (2018) - Greg - 01-25-2023 John Malkovich plays an aging Hercule Poirot in this adaptation of an Agatha Christie story. Ron Weasley plays the antagonistic police officer Inspector Crome who wants nothing to do with Poirot because of a general air of Xenophobia in the country. Xenophobia is a strong undercurrent to the story. Poirot receives letters from a killer who is murdering people according to a railway book. Since Poirot receives the letters Ron Weasley decides Poirot is somehow in league with the killer. There is a lot of tension between Ron and Poirot. Since Poirot currently struggles with his mortality (I'm tired of characters struggling with their mortality. Hits too close to home) there are plenty of shots of Poirot being alone with his feeling. One thing that is weird to me about the story is we've already been shown the killer. So the mystery is how does Poirot catch him. Or is it a deep fake? The bigger mystery is why does Ron Weasley hate Poirot so much? Suggestions are that maybe Poirot never really was a great detective in Belgium. The pace is glacially slow but I'll probably watch another episode to see where this goes. RE: The A.B.C Murders (2018) - Greg - 01-27-2023 More murders. More Malkovich and his Belgian accent. Finally there are clues to who the murder is for Hercule Poirot despite the fact we know who the murderer is, I think. Could still be a fakeout. Finally someone has decided Poirot should lead an investigation into finding the killer. But we still aren't getting anywhere quickly. We do see the man who is supposed to be the killer involved in kinky stuff at his rented apartment. And Ron Weasley has begrudgingly decided to work with Poirot. I think episode 3 is the last episode. I'm in no big rush to finish. |
