Wildcat (2022) by Melissa Lesh, Trevor Frost - cranefly - 01-03-2023 A documentary about raising an orphaned baby ocelot with hopes of returning it to the wilds of the Peruvian rainforest. I had reservations going in. Some of the camera angles on dangerous encounters were too good, as if staged. And why would they befriend the ocelot? Shouldn't they minimize contact to keep it wild? I now take that all back. Raising and releasing a predator poses unique challenges. It's just isn't done. It takes time, and a mentor, to teach the ocelot to hunt, how to catch and hold prey, and what animals and insects to avoid--all done in an uncontrolled wild environment. The humans raising the ocelot are themselves scarred by past traumas, so this is as much about them trying to deal with their own demons through helping the ocelot. Ocelot cubs are so damned cute! Recommended. RE: Wildcat (2022) by Melissa Lesh, Trevor Frost - Drunk Monk - 01-03-2023 This has been heavily promoted on AP so I've been considering it. For some unknown reason, the IG bots have decided that I like caracals. A lot of caracal IGs show up on my feed. I probably liked one at some point, so now IG thinks I like them all. In truth, I can't imagine trying to keep a wildcat. A tamed feral is rough enough. Anything bigger could cut me open without a thought. That being said, my muse Salvador Dali kept an ocelot named Babou. Dali was alledgedly a cat lover.
RE: Wildcat (2022) by Melissa Lesh, Trevor Frost - Greg - 01-03-2023 Ah, tamed feral cats. I know about them. RE: Wildcat (2022) by Melissa Lesh, Trevor Frost - Drunk Monk - 01-03-2023 They are never really tamed. They just act that way so you'll feed them. But they'd cut you in a second if they felt the need. Amirite? RE: Wildcat (2022) by Melissa Lesh, Trevor Frost - Greg - 01-03-2023 I sleep with one eye open. Actually, they are all just skittish to varying degrees. I can pick up all but one of them. The Queen has issues with most of them and they run from her. That's right! They like me better! FTW. |
