Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Drunk Monk - 09-27-2022 Rock Med is slammed tonight - beyond several small shows, there’s a big soccer game at Levi’s. A call went out help and this seemed like the easiest play. There are only 6 of us vols. We’re all over 50. No opening act. Doobies gonna play a 2.5 hour set straight. Should be done by 10:30. Projected attendance 5K. Lawn not open. RE: Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Drunk Monk - 09-27-2022 3 guitars, keys, sax, 2 drummers. I think only 2 original members. They sound okay. But I’d be hard pressed to separate them from a cover band. Crowd is seniors but not as bad as Jazz fest. RE: Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Greg - 09-27-2022 I thought Michael McDonald was on this tour. RE: Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Drunk Monk - 09-27-2022 Well, that was diverting. The last 40 mins or so were all the hits and crowd was on their feet. Why can I still remember Doobie lyrics but can’t remember my damn passwords? We weren’t bothered by any patients. One intake. A few assists to get people to their rides. Ended up chatting a lot with RMers who weren’t very interesting. Had an impossible burger at employee discount. Thought about Trejo’s tacos (it is taco Tuesday) but decided to go cheap instead. They’re trying to get me to come back for Odezca which is sold out two nights. Nah. I got tv to watch. McDonald is on this tour. His voice is gone tho. Johnson, Simmons & Mcfee too. This was the 50th anniversary tour. RE: Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Greg - 09-28-2022 Thanks. I keep forgetting..... I was surprised to learn the Doobie Brother got there start in San Jose. Just learned that this year. RE: Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Drunk Monk - 09-28-2022 I knew that. I worked the Doobies many years ago when they participated in The Great Taste of San Jose. That was a foodie street fair downtown. There was no 'backstage' so the space that we used for our medical center was shared with the band as their dressing rooms. They must've said they started in San Jo like a gagillion times. Upon reflection, an enjoyable moment last night was when I realized all six of the RM vols were around my age. Usually, the rest of the team is more like Tara's age. Also my deadhead tie-dyer friend Jeremy showed up. He tried to scam his way to better parking using the RM delivery ploy, but was denied and word came back to us. alas, deadheads... RE: Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Greg - 09-28-2022 You know what also happened Tuesday Night. The Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert. You should have worked that one. Sure it was in HelLA, but you were going to travel Vegas for LiB why not be at the Fabulous Forum for that show. Unlike the London concert, MTV did not stream the concert here in the US. I've caught some bad audience videos that almost make me want to pay for Paramount+. RE: Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Drunk Monk - 09-28-2022 The big event at Levi's was Mexico v Colombia. Soccer. Or Futbol. Some sort of foreigner sportsball. One of the regular supes who was transferred to that game stopped by at the end of the Doobies to check in. He said that there were a lot of fights. He also said Mexicans like to pee in their empty drink bottles and then throw them from the upper tiers into the audience. Apparently there was a lot of hurled objects. I was content to do nothing at the Doobies beyond eat snacks. RE: Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Greg - 09-28-2022 A wise decision. RE: Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Drunk Monk - 09-30-2022 Quote:John Hartman Dies: Doobie Brothers Drummer & Co-Founder Was 72 RE: Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Greg - 09-30-2022 Wow. Was he at this most recent gig at shoreline? RE: Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Drunk Monk - 09-30-2022 No. He left the band and returned several times. As another footnote, tg sent me news of that Odezca show RM asked me to do tonight. It was cancelled because some piece of equipment broke in the load in for Sacto. Maybe they smashed their glitter ball? I dunno. It's like two dudes, one with 2 turntables and a microphone...what could be so critical? RE: Doobie Brothers @ Shoreline - Greg - 09-30-2022 Doug Henning for the win. I guess. |
