[Seen on Kanopy]

Tracktown is Eugene, Oregon.  I lived there twice and never heard it called that.  Nor do I recall ever seeing a runner.  Maybe I just wasn't observant enough, or I was in the wrong places.  Anyhow, Eugene is very big in the track world.

This is the fictional story of young long-distance runner Plumb Marigold.  What distinguishes it is that it uses real runners as actors.  Plumb is played by Alexi Pappas, a real marathon runner. who also co-wrote and co-directed.  Career-wise, she now seems headed into film-land, and I wish her the best.

In this story, she places 6th in a long race, which means she's qualified to run in the race three days hence that will decide who goes to the Olympics.  But it was a bumpy race, and her leg got bruised.  Her sports doctor orders her to take one day off.  Plumb has never done this in her life.  What follows is her experiences and soul-searching throughout that day, surrounded mostly by people have no idea of the commitment involved in being a world-class long distance runner.  Included in that day is her first awkward intimacy with a boy.  SPOILER ALERT: As she undresses, she apologizes, "I've got muscles.  I'm strong.  I'm built like a boy.  Sorry."  :END SPOILER

A little under-powered, but insightful.  Eugene certainly has the facilities for track athletes!

Not really recommended, unless you're trying to qualify for a marathon.

Eugene, Oregon is home to Nike. Phil Knight was the track coach there of Prefontaine among others and came up with the Nike Athletic shoe.
