The Tragedy of MacBeth - thatguy - 01-16-2022 http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/showthread.php?tid=3294&pid=52349#pid52349 This Will Shakespeare guy writes some very-Coen brothers-esque tragic material. Denzel Washington as Macbeth and Francis McDormand as Lady M. Francis is good and Denzel is serviceable, better than I expected. Katherine Hunter kills it as the 3 witches (and the old man). Coen regular Stephen Root makes a brief appearance as the porter. Shot in black and white, in a non-standard aspect ratio (is it old-school TV format? It has rounded corners like a ViewMaster frame). The sets were almost expressionistic, a la Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and the lighting is strong. ![]() It looks great although something happens on my TV with B/W colorized video: some of the greys are warm tone and others are cool tone. I suspect it's my TV trying to auto-correct the picture. I find it disturbing. The Shakespeare dialog is hard to hear in some places. I watched without subtitles, but would turn them on next time. Sword fight, but mostly just hacking claymores. The fight with Siward and Macbeth is pretty good, but can't be called a sword fight as Macbeth was unarmed... Recommended for the witches and the sets/lighting! --tg |
