Hangover Square (1945) by John Brahm - cranefly - 12-02-2021

(seen on Criterion)

Composer George Harvey Bone suffers stress-related blackouts during which murders seem to occur.  Concerned that he might be responsible, he consults his doctor and even turns himself into the police.  But the evidence just isn't there.  His doctor recommends he take a break from music and get more rest.  But this isn't easy, with a composition soon due for an orchestra performance.  And then there's the bar singer-dancer Netta (Linda Darnell) who enters his life, who sees him as an easy mark to help her career along with better songs.

Great music (by Bernard Hermann), Linda Darnell in one of her best roles, and an over-the-top orchestral finale.

And what a title.

Alan Napier plays Lord Henry, patron of the composer and father of good-girl Barbara, the composer's main love interest -- until femme fatale Netta starts manipulating him.
