Madame X - Madonna - Drunk Monk - 10-22-2021 Madonna’s latest album is on the road as a small theater tour. It was mostly done in Lisbon and this concert film complies several shows into one. It’s dark for Madonna, self absorbed like always, building upon her own mythology, with lots of sermonizing - preaching to the fans. It’s not so pop. Quite the opposite, Madonna pillages Portuguese music and dance. She wears a pretentious eye patch with a glittery X on it. It’s artsy fartsy but I agree with her politics and her comments on art. ‘Artists are here to disturb the peace’. She even does a Fado song (which I only know about because of Elaine Avila’s book, which I shamefully have not read). She looks great, maybe in her thirties. Amazing what work & make up can do. Her voice is still full but she’s relying on more effects and her dancing isn’t what it was but damn, she’s 63. It’s a lavish over-the-too production with many guest musicians, dancers and costume and set changes. When she brings the Batuque women drum and dance troupe in, the show soars with jubilation. Her messages are heavy handed but these are heavy handed times. Someone will surely call her out for cultural appropriation, but she’s Madonna. She quotes a lot of James Baldwin. The editing is choppy, too stroboscopic for my liking. It’s already a visually gratuitous show. Cuts are like 10 secs top it seems. She brings her kids on stage. She talks a lot about masturbation. She also riffs on Mozart coming from her pussy (hard to explain that scene). She sits and chats with Dave Chappelle who’s watching the show. She sells a Polaroid she takes and warms between her legs raising a fat wad of cash for charity. I enjoyed her version of Frozen, done mostly acoustic classical instruments. Ray of Light remains one of my favorite albums of all time and the only Madonna cd I own. This is probably totally amaze balls live. The video is too choppy. I’ve realized that one of the things I luv about Madonna is that she has a great horse stance. Her kua are wide open. I wish I could flex like that. RE: Madame X - Madonna - thatguy - 10-22-2021 She was on Jimmy Fallon recently promoting this. She seemed a bit loopy, like a conspiracy theorist or someone off their meds, or maybe on some other meds. I heard that before she was a pop-star and actress, she was a pre-Madonna —tg RE: Madame X - Madonna - cranefly - 10-23-2021 (10-22-2021, 11:17 PM)thatguy Wrote: I heard that before she was a pop-star and actress, she was a pre-MadonnaIt took me way, way, way too long for that one. RE: Madame X - Madonna - Drunk Monk - 10-23-2021 I’ve been meaning to peep that Fallon interview. And yeah, she’s been hella loopy for decades. SHE’S FECKIN MADONNA! Who wouldn’t be loopy after living her life? I love that after all these years, she’s still got an edge. Granted, a loopy edge but at least she’s not a Vegas lounge act. Like I said, I do like her politics. She can still push buttons. And she’s still got a wicked wicked horse stance. She still evoke elation. I should check out her interview... Madonna tales - former RM director Raz remembers when she did a show with the flu. She was in bad shape and he and our doc advised to cancel but she told them off, told them of her fans loyalty and dedication and her obligation to them. Then she went out and slayed. Raz also said she was really short. |
