Who Killed the Electric Car - The Queen - 12-12-2006

It was interesting -- the part that intrigued me the most was why they were only leased/never sold from the get-go, had to be returned when the lease was up and why the auto makers then had every one of them destroyed. I was disappointed to hear that hydrogen is pretty much just hype and impractical, regardless of how much gets invested in it. The hopeful thing I heard was about the further development of the gas/electric hybrid, moving toward one that can plug in and self-charge and thus get more than 100 miles per gallon.

But it sounds to me like, unless there's serious upheaval in the power structure, we can count on staying with oil & gas and paying higher and higher prices until the pump is completely empty. And because their pockets are as full as they are (and we have no choice but to keep them that way) they can afford to shoot down anything that presents any sort of competition.
