Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Drunk Monk - 05-17-2021 I've been tapped to be a talking head on a documentary for Reelz Network on The Karate Kid phenomena. I'm told it's part of series of docs examining favorite fan franchise obsessions. The production company is based in NY but they're doing one day of filming here to pick up the west coasters, mostly me and the original writer, Robert Mark Kamen. They want me in the hot seat for 75 mins, answering questions and such. They said they'll send me questions in advance (they've already sent me the overview and it's pretty straight forward). This is why I had to take a covid test yesterday (http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/showthread.php?tid=5312&pid=47490#pid47490). I'm excited to get another credit on my IMdB, not that I could ever catch up to Brother Greg there, but at least it'll give me top billing on Amazon Prime for DM & the Yeti. RE: Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Greg - 05-17-2021 I'm starting to feel like Dr. Frankenstein. RE: Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 05-17-2021 I’ll be in my trailer. RE: Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Greg - 05-17-2021 Is the Reelz Network even a thing? Are you Cosplaying being a documentary talking head again? (Congratulations. I hope they pay they pay you top dollar.) RE: Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Drunk Monk - 05-17-2021 (05-17-2021, 02:59 PM)Greg Wrote: Is the Reelz Network even a thing? At least, I'm getting more than I got for my last documentary appearance, but not nearly as much as my first. But then again, I didn't appear in my first doc. I was a consultant/producer. I did film scenes and do narration but all of that was cut, just like my killer tracheotomy story in that last doc. RE: Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Greg - 05-17-2021 I'd sue. RE: Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Drunk Monk - 05-17-2021 I got an all expense paid trip to Shaolin out of that. I’m not complaining. Not like that last doc which didn’t even give me the common courtesy of a reach around. RE: Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Greg - 05-17-2021 That's what I meant. You should sue the second guys. But hold on. I thought HK helped a brother out on the warehouse tour....... RE: Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Greg - 05-18-2021 Well, there's that. RE: Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Drunk Monk - 05-18-2021 Filming went well, all in all. I had fun. I arrived right on time and there was a reserved parking space in a secure lot waiting for me (that's better than a trailer in SF, right?) The small studio was in a warehouse of assorted studios, one of those industrial building conversions where you take a freight elevator up and who knows what's going on next door? I wasn't impressed, nor was I surprised. I had to sign off on several reams of Covid agreements. Everyone stayed masked except me, and I only unmasked for the interview. Reelz sent a crew of three - PA Francisco, DP Kyle and interviewer Will. It was pretty laid back. They just used the kitchen as a backdrop, which felt a little odd. However the actual studio room was close to the window and not sound tight. It was windy and there was some train noises on occasion. No lav mics. Just a boom. The team did three interviews today. I was sandwiched in between two other writers, the first one I didn't see, the following one was a heavily made up woman (even with the mask - so much mascara like a goth raccoon) with her metal makeup box. On the way out, I joked with the DP about not having make up. They interviewed Kamen (the original writer) yesterday at his winery in Sonoma. The interviewer went through 3 pages of questions in an hour and 15 mins. I was allowed to review them and prepare (which meant reviewing my Den of Geek articles quickly for a few questions). It was very relaxed and I was permitted do-overs if I stumbled. The questions were derived from a phone conversation that I had with the main contact in NY - I think he's the director. I felt okay about my answers. My brain was still percolating from the Yeti's cappuccino so my flow was decent, only I felt myself spacing out now and again just because it was such a long time in the hot seat, and I started to overthink my responses. I got a few answers off that registered genuine surprise in the crew in that 'never thought of that' way, which I'm calling a win. The DP really liked my voice, describing it as 'an FM DJ voice, very soothing and relaxing,' which I've heard before, but beg to differ. My voice has been twisted by my teen adoration of Stevie Nicks and in a flailing attempt to sing along to Rhiannon, it contorted into something more Tom Waits with a head cold and a hangover. But DPs blow air up the talents' asses some times. Whatevs. FM DJs are safe. So are Stevie and Tom. Voice work is so not within my wheelhouse. We'll see how much of my chatter actually makes it into the doc. I'm not sure how many people they are interviewing. Probably not 50+ gabby fencers, but who knows? I felt the three that were interviewed today (including me) were fairly obscure voices to chime in on this. RE: Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 05-18-2021 Did you primarily talk about yourself? No? Then waaaaaaaay easier than dealing with 50+ fencers. RE: Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Drunk Monk - 05-19-2021 Well, my interviewer never talked about himself at all. So that was refreshing. Anything is easier than 50+ fencers. RE: Reelz Network Karate Kid documentary - Greg - 05-19-2021 No comment.
