I must be a bad person. I don't know this Children's author. When they talk about her works, I vaguely know the characters. But I can't name one of the books for the life of me.

These two things are not exclusive. That said, I hope she had a good run and was sharp/capable to the end.

I can't imagine Ramona was high on your reading list, even as a kid.

I read these to my kids. Really great reading. Pre-teenage angst. Great characters. Ramona, her big sister “Beezuz”, her nemesis “yard ape”, the cat “picky-picky”. Stories from late 50’s Portland (on Kilikitat St, IIRC). In the Encyclopedia Brown, Homer Price vein. Very white, suburban.

104 is a long time to live.

I never read any of those either, but I remember people buying them in the bookstore and seeing them at the library. Her work is where the punk band Ribzy in San Jose got their name, although I can't remember if they got it from the book or from a real dog named after the dog in the book.

She started the whole trend to more realistic children's books in the US, so we all no doubt read something influenced by her.
