All is True (2018) - Drunk Monk - 04-15-2020 Branagh can be annoying but he does read Shakespeare well. And Dench and McKellen in a elegy for Shakespeare's final years and you've got... well, an artsy fartsy exercise in too much Branagh. His make up is cool. And this is a Shakespearean actor's film, with tight face shots on long emotionally complex renditions of Shakespearean soliloquys in long single takes. But it's bogged down by its vision, which is awkward camera angles and really darkly shot scenes as if to emulate faded Rembrandts. Plus it's a major buzzkill. I love Willy and to learn this story, the tale of his final years, is really a bummer. Sure, he wrote the world's greatest plays but he sacrificed his family in the process. They just needed to have Branagh, Dench & McKellen recite Shakes (McKellen's scene is so tangential and spurious - it's like they just wanted to stick him in there somewhere). What a drag. No sword fights although there is a silhouette of one but that hardly counts. Not DOOM recommended. RE: All is True (2018) - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 04-15-2020 I watched The Debt Collector instead. It was Shakespearean. RE: All is True (2018) - Drunk Monk - 04-15-2020 (04-15-2020, 09:17 PM)Dr. Ivor Yeti Wrote: I watched The Debt Collector instead.
