Diamantino (2018) by Gabriel Abrantes, Daniel Schmidt - cranefly - 12-01-2019 This is a placeholder for now. Diamantino drops tomorrow, Dec. 2, on Criterion channel. It's a special streaming event. This is that absurd-looking movie about a soccer player and a bunch of poms. Or maybe it isn't. Who knows. I posted it in the trailers some time back. I'll likely watch it early in the week. RE: Diamantino (2018) by Gabriel Abrantes, Daniel Schmidt - Drunk Monk - 12-01-2019 Poster? RE: Diamantino (2018) by Gabriel Abrantes, Daniel Schmidt - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 12-02-2019 I remember the trailer. It could be hilarious. RE: Diamantino (2018) by Gabriel Abrantes, Daniel Schmidt - cranefly - 12-03-2019 One of those movies that is bizarrely charming. I was smiling through large portions of it. At times it seems flawless in its mood and progression. At others, especially late, it feels like the directors didn't shoot enough footage to maintain that flow -- so it has little gaps and glitches and a couple slow spots. But this bit of sputtering doesn't harm the overall presentation too much. Diamantino is Portugal's greatest soccer player. Soccer is all he's ever done, so he's slow-witted in other ways. Coming up on the World Cup finals, he has an epiphany, which wreaks havoc with his life and all those around him. Lots of strange elements enter the picture, from spies to genetic experimentation to mistaken identities to femme fatale twin sisters... To poms. Only they're not poms, though early reviews called them that. They're pekingese, I'm pretty sure. But they're puppies, okay, and roughly the same thing. HP factor 4. Okay probably not, but I've always wanted to say that. So sue me. Oh, there are swordfights... RE: Diamantino (2018) by Gabriel Abrantes, Daniel Schmidt - Drunk Monk - 12-03-2019 Well alright then. You made me dig up the trailer again. Or maybe the teaser. You're right. Those look like maltese.
