The Man Who Knew Infinity (2015) - Drunk Monk - 11-05-2019 Dev Patel is mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Jeremy Irons is mathematician G. H. Hardy. Based on real actual genuine history stuff. Wait...did I just watch a movie about math? Why? For Devika Bhise, Ramanujan's suffering wife Janaki, that's why. She was great in the few scenes she was in, stealing each one. But the rest is super predictable and cliche. Dev (not to be mistaken for Devika) has visions of math. Jeremy is the only one who can overlook British colonial racism and helps as the rigorous professor, and ultimately Dev's white savior. Lots of cool shots of Trinity College in Cambridge, which I'm sure is plenty historical and all that. I read one review where they consulted real mathematicians to get the math right. Like who cares about that? They could've written anything on those chalkboards, feckin Klingon if they wanted, and I wouldn't have been the wiser. Yeah, math, it's cool, like 'painting with colors you cannot see'. Whatev man. Dev should've forsaken all that math stuff and stayed with Devika. That's what I would've done. Math. meh. No swordfights. Not DOOM recommended. More on Devika to come... |
