Doubles cause Troubles (1989) - Drunk Monk - 08-25-2018 (08-23-2018, 08:51 PM)cranefly Wrote: There are two or three flicks with Maggie Cheung in them on Netflix, as well as the many martial arts additions. I need to check some of them out. Remember Thelma & Louise? Imagine Maggie as Thelma and Carol 'Do Do' Chang as Louise. This is nothing like that. This is a painfully bad goofy comedy from Shaw Bros which just reminds us all why they should have never ventured into anything without Kung Fu in it. Very not funny. Maggie and Do Do play cousins who hate each other but must live with each other to inherit a relative's flat and their tenant is killed immediately by gangsters searching for a stolen Taiwanese treasure. There's a lot of dumb gangsters including a dykish villainess and a gay rollerskater and two that are hypnotized into thinking they are a dog and chicken. So horribly horribly dumb. But like the 3 recent netflix Stephen Chow adds, there are 3 netflix Maggie Cheungs. Oh what kind of damnable hellish tesseract have I returned to? Tesseracts. Feckin inescapable. ![]() As a side note, for years I thought Carol Do Do Chang was Amy Yip. I read 'Do Do' as 'Doda' and figured she used her figure like Amy. But no. Do Do is an award-winning HK actress. Amy Yip was in Blue Jean Monster (1991), a classic that I believe I saw with ED. Or maybe it was cf. BJM is an outstanding outrageous HK flick. RE: Doubles cause Troubles (1989) - cranefly - 08-25-2018 What the hey? DM is just back from his world tour and already he's raced ahead of me? I'm starting to think that the spinning tesseract he keeps posting is really a Blue Gene Monster. Unstoppable -- even by Amy Yip's dynamic duo. Just watched a trailer for Blue Jean Monster. I think I've seen it. Almost certain. But maybe I need a refresher... And despite your wave-off, I'm tempted to watch Doubles Cause Troubles, because there's something perniciously addictive about Maggie Cheung's porcelain face. |
