The Visitors by Simon Sylvester - King Bob - 08-08-2017 This takes place on a very small Scottish Island and is told by a 16-18 year old girl. (I assume she's about that age. She's sixth-year in school and I think Harry Potter was about 11 when he went to Hogwarts.) It is certainly not YA though, more of a mystery-thriller. People start disappearing. There is a new girl at school, and both she and her father are a bit odd. The narrator starts writing a paper on the legend of the Selkie, and people tell her Selkie stories which appear as separate chapters. She finds an odd book on Selkies at a rummage sale, and becomes sort of obsessed with the subject. It's unclear until the end what exactly is happening, and it finished strong. Well-written and entertaining, and the depiction of island life was interesting. I enjoyed the Scottish setting and dialect; I think the Yeti might also. |
